Racketboy saturn fighting games

You may remember his journey through the SNES fighting collection both the good and the ugly in addition to a number of other wonderful contributions. I hope you enjoy this guide! When people think of the Nintendo […]. There are also […]. Guides Journal Together Retro Forum. Retro Gaming Learn essential information about vintage consoles. The game does make use of some neat faux-3D elements.

One of the first bosses is fought in an arena, where he stands in the center. Your characters run around him in circles while avoiding the junkyard dogs he constantly throws at you. You have to face the boss and fire your sporting paraphernalia for all your worth when you get the chance. Albert Odyssey fits the description of the better bit RPGs, complete with sprite-based graphics and a good story. Working Designs has done a great job scripting the game, with the right amount of serious story development paced with the comic relief that an RPG needs.

Many times dialogue choices are so obvious usually the right answer is on the top , that they draw you away from the progressing storyline. Answering incorrectly may add some dialogue in spots, but the outcome is almost always going to be the same. When you hear the words Action and RPG together you generally think about some super deformed little prince hacking little blobs on the screen, right? It also has cooking, temporary items that wear out, throwing weapons, such as daggers, and a vast assortment of magic items.

The coolest thing out of that list is being able to cook your healing items. Unlike the cooking items, which are cool, the magic items are kinda cruddy…. The graphics in Princess Crown are simply awe inspiring, putting many Playstation and N64 game to utter shame… Overall, Princess Crown is a video game masterpiece that has every aspect that a masterpiece must have: excellent gameplay, awesome graphics, and art that just plain hurts ya.

If you are a Saturn owner you must add this game to your collection, it is a timeless classic that every gamer should play and it comes with my highest recommendation. Players command armies composed of either soldier, samurai, archer, mage, harpy, dragon, or zombie forces in an effort to capture enemy castles and leaders.

Gamers send forces of up to four generals who, in turn, command up to troops out into the world to raid castles or take on roving bands of enemies…. Dragon Force balances role-playing and strategy elements perfectly, intermittently directing the war of the land through storyline segments. And the ending is a stunning and climactic spectacle to behold.

The game also offers a great deal of replayability, since storylines differ, depending on which of the eight main leaders is chosen each storyline takes roughly hours to play through successfully. You have little blocks that fall down the screen and your job is to arrange them so that different animals get their favorite foods instead of the normal colors.

Rabbits eat carrots, dogs eat bones, monkeys eat bananas, mice eat cheese, and pandas eat bamboo. Sounds pretty cute, huh?

Just watching the little dogs and mice munch their way across the screen is fun, and they make little munchie noises too. But seriously this game is extremely addictive. You are dealing with up to ten different blocks five animals, five foods and each comes down in random patterns of two. At first the game may not seem so great, only 4 cars, 3 tracks, and a weak number of racing modes make it lack depth. In fact when I started playing the game, I thought I had wasted the cash I spent on it, the framerate is horrible, the graphics are bland, and the courses are somewhat boring.

You choose a boarder, choose a track, and off yah go rumbling through the snow. On the way to the finish line you are encouraged to leap off of anything and everything in order to score big air and big trick points. You are then ranked by both time and tricks…. What is pretty, however, is the killer control.

To perform stunts, you simply press a button and the D-pad, even stacking moves in order to pull off some neat combinations. The triggers are used to rotate; this helps to slow down when things are getting a bit too wily and to add flash to tricks. The response is tight and accurate, the feel is dead on, and the moves are easy and fun to pull off. Now you are talking!! Anyway, if I find more later on for any system , I will probably post a review of the game and then add it to the list.

Fighting vipers is really neat. Not to complain, just warning people, stick to the obvious choices, the saturn was not very rich in 3d fighters.

But yeah, the Saturn is not a place to go for a variety of 3D fighters. Yeah, I realize Astal and Dragon Force are kinda bordering mainstream, but because those genres were kinda lacking, it put them on there.

Amazing post, just amazing. Jeff Minter, the programmer and designer of Tempest , only wrote the Jaguar version. The PSX port is actually the superior of the ports, but still has errors and inconsistencies, as pointed out by Jeff Minter himself. The ebay prices for it should indicate as much. Hi thaught ask this question,is the sega saturn version of street fighter zero 3 better than the ps2 version on the anthology edition well according to wikipedia it is.

Here is a game that didnt make the list and it is very fun. Loaded is also fun but only in short play gets old quick. Rockman X3, Megaman X4 and Megaman 8 are my fav. Bones is an incredible game. One of my favourite Saturn games. Blazing Dragons is a great game too.

Its cartoony, fun, obscure. A point and click type of game. Solve puzzles, investigate the little medieval world its set in. Although, like all Shmups, really difficult. All new to me. I will come back when i have some more time and see if there are anymore good titles missing..

I would recommend Heir of Zendor as an undiscovered gem. Very fun Koei strategy game about fighting floating island nations. Saturn Bomberman is my favorite Saturn game….. And I was kind of shocked to not see Gaurdian Heros….

Thanks for this one! Another great list Racketboy. I would have included all those games as well apart from a few I have not played. I was shocked to see Die Hard Arcade on the list.

Not because its not a good game, but because I thought no one apart from me enjoyed it. If only it is was a bit longer it would have been amazing. Did you ever play die hard trilogy? I really liked that game especially the driving game. Athlete Kings because It was so simple to play yet so much fun. Sonic R because it was a great attempt at taking on Mario Kart. It was not as good but it was definitely a fun game.

I think you should do a feature on Exhumed. That was a great game that was overlooked and deserved more attention. Blame Acclaim I guess. The game itself is just average but it is overlooked for its graphical achievement. The game is faster and better looking than every N64 game and all but a handfull of Playstation games. Saturn Bomberman is still my favorite in the series and still THE multiplayer game in my house.

There are certainly worse. If anything they should keep the text the same and redo the voice acting which is atrocious. This is awesome timing for me.. I never owned a saturn when I was younger as I had a playstation and didnt see apoint in having both. I have pretty much every game on this list and still looking for more. An awesome console, made especially better as I am into my 2D fighters. Just managed to get a copy of a street fighter zero 3 with ram cart reasonably cheap on Ebay which is extremely rare.

What an awesome conversion it is. Thanks for the list. Excellent review, excellent site! The Saturn was perhaps my favourite console of all time and I still own and play one to this day!

Virtua Cop with the lightgun is truly fatastic. Nights is great but I want to obtain the Chrismas edition. Well, there is a completed translation for the Premium Disc. I am impressed by your post, very nice work on the list. I have played the saturnfor a very logn time as well.

It had very good graphics and some very random games. I agree with many of the things you said. I also want to point out that the saturn started many other character games series, and was one of the few that was given multi console games. Like GEx for example. IE sonic. IT was stil a grea system in its time. Very realistic graphics and so on.

I gotta add the game virtual hydlide to it though, THat game had amazing graphics and was a huge 3d adventure rpg game. Hey can anyone tell me the name of this game? I remember playing when I was like, 5 or something, it had flying cars that were all basically the same generic shape, and obviously you raced people and when you press a it makes it PEEOWN! I love the Saturn, my collection of Saturn games eclipses most of the other systems I have. Nice to see a note on Saturn Bomberman too.

I agree, it is the best version ever, especially the wide mode where you have a massive play field. The Saturn have not the 3D power of the Ps1 And N64 i m not agree with that but the majority of the games in your list are 3D games…..

Yeah, I hear you! I was an early adopter of the Saturn and still consider it to be one of the great underrated consoles. You did a solid job picking out the games that defined the Saturn. I remember when this was posted in ! Just to name a few:. Your email address will not be published. Notify me of followup comments via e-mail. Guides Journal Together Retro Forum. Check out our detailed comparison of the Sega Saturn and Playstation hardware along with the N64 The goal of this list is to identify the best exclusive Sega Saturn games, but if you would like to share your favorites, please feel to post a comment below.

Looking back, its fun to think I thought these looked life-like Sega originally was planning on bringing Virtua Fighter 3 to the Saturn, but they held off until they launched the Dreamcast and Virtua Fighter 3TB.

Full Review of House of the Dead Saturn Bomberman Bomberman has shown his face on virtually every video game console known to many since the 8-bit era. You may also want to check out the Dreamcast shooter library As you can see from my comparison list , the Saturn and Playstation share quite a few shooter titles between their libraries.
