Best software for sony ericsson satio
I have had two satio's now and both were very bad touch screen doesn't work properly, it cuts off, cuts calls off, battery life gets shorter and shorter after charging a few times. The satio could be good if it wasn't symbian or sony ericsson it has some ok features hardly anything that comes on the phone actually works like the app store, navigation, locator and others.
If you want a good camera with a phone attached then get the satio or just buy a good camera and get a cheap basic mobile that wont let you down and the battery will last for ever i am swapping for the vodafone samsung h1 it is ten times better cheaper and has lots more support. Sam, 06 Dec Awww Where did you get yours? I think they bought their unit with no warranty. One year warranty.
HATED it with a passion!! A good media device that doesn't quite beat the likes of the Samsung iHD in terms of overall performance. Update : read our Vivaz review the successor to the Satio. Sony Ericsson has finally launched the Satio, the phone it showed off back in February under the guise of Idou, packing the best of all its brands into one phone.
But can the sheer range of gadgetry and a new OS be enough to lure customers back to the brand? Not content with being leaders in cameraphone and multimedia technology, Sony Ericsson has decided to put the two Walkman and Cybershot brands together in the new Satio.
This means an industry-leading camera, a full range of multimedia playback options and it's based on Symbian S60 5th edition to boot. The overall feel of the handset is odd. Thanks to the sheer range of camera-related gadgetry on board the rear of the phone has a massive camera section bolted to the back, which makes it a little chunky. But weirdly the phone didn't feel heavy at all — in fact we thought the battery needed to be put in, it was so light, but the power pack was snugly under the cover, so this is pretty impressive.
The Satio feels OK in the hand — it's not snug, but the 3. The front of the phone is very minimal — it's got a call, hang up and menu key, and that's about it. There is a front facing video camera on there too for all that video calling fun everyone has these days, but it's down the sides of the phone where the button frenzy really begins. On the left-hand side is the slider for unlocking the phone which is in just about the right place for most hands , the standard Sony Ericsson port for USB connection, charging and headphone connection boo!
I've duplicated this effect with numerous other Satio flash photos, sadly. Hopefully this is something which can be tweaked in a future firmware update.
The issue may not affect your party photos, but it's certainly something to bear in mind. As expected, the Satio and N86 duel it out in their chosen manners. The Satio produces the most detail but also the most noise, while the N86 gathers more light and manages to suppress noise to produce a pleasing result.
The i HD result isn't bad either in this company, while the N96 image shows how far behind "last year's" smartphone cameras are when the going gets tough. The Nokia N86 wins out in this final shootout, thanks to much better colour handling throughout, including capturing detail in the sky, while the Satio does manage to resolve finer detail, thanks to the 12 megapixel sensor, but lets itself down in other areas.
Download the full images yourself and see what you think. Maximum video capture from the Satio is at VGA at 30 frames per second - good, but really only matching most Nokia Smartphones from the last few years.
As you'll see from the test video below, like the N97, N97 mini and from Nokia, there's not only no initial focus, there's no pre-focus either, so only objects further than a couple of metres away are in focus. Thus, the birds are clear enough but my face isn't as clear as it could be. Also, download the original MP4 clip here as satiovidsample.
MP4 20MB. Frame rate and overall encoding are decent though - grab the MP4 version above if you can see the clarity in the YouTube version, and the Satio will be OK for most casual video use. I was disappointed not to see an Nlike resampling in video mode - on the Nokia version, you can zoom in while filming and you still maintain full VGA resolution, thanks to dynamic resampling of capture from the full sensor.
Here on the Satio, as with other camera phones, zooming in just gets you pixellated subjects - sadly. In part three of my review of the Sony Ericsson Satio, I'll be using it as a smartphone, testing its application set and general interface. Shot 4: Very dark, subject 1.

Shot 6: Night time, street lamps, no flash allowed, testing raw sensor and aperture capability Above is the Satio's photo, click to download the full 12 megapixel version Detailed crops, clockwise from left: Satio, N86, N96, i HD As expected, the Satio and N86 duel it out in their chosen manners. Shot 7: Late afternoon straight shoot out - Satio vs N86, challenging contrast, light and colours Above is the Satio's photo, click to download the full 12 megapixel version Above is the N86's photo, click to download the full 8 megapixel version The Nokia N86 wins out in this final shootout, thanks to much better colour handling throughout, including capturing detail in the sky, while the Satio does manage to resolve finer detail, thanks to the 12 megapixel sensor, but lets itself down in other areas.
In summary, I'd rate the Sony Ericsson Satio as having, potentially , the best camera ever put in a smartphone. But, as with other aspects of the phone, its functionality is immature.
The N86 being used for comparison is also new-ish, but it has had a chance for several signficant firmware updates.
